Information Revolution for Improving Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility
It is well-know that information sharing among supply chain partners is critical for improving operational efficiency. However, it is not clear whether information sharing can improve environmental sustainability and social responsibility. In this presentation, I plan to use recent research and case-based studies to illustrate the power of information for creative innovative and socially responsible supply chains.
About the speaker:
Known as a world renowned thought leader in global supply chain management and operations management, Professor Tang consulted with numerous global companies including Amazon, HP (California, Singapore, South Korea), IBM (New York, San Jose), Nestlé (USA), GKN (UK), Accenture, etc.; taught courses at Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, National University of Singapore, MIT (Zaragoza), London Business School, etc.; served as a visiting professor at Cambridge University (UK) and the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) at HKUST; delivered over 200 keynote speeches and seminars at conferences and universities world-wide; chaired numerous advisory committees at various universities in Asia (Hong Kong and China); interviewed and quoted by international press for over 100 times; and served as board members for various non-profit organizations.
He has co-edited / co-written 6 books published by Springer, over 20 book chapters, over 100 online blogs, and over 130 research articles in various leading academic journals. He has also written articles for Wall Street Journal, Financial Times (UK), Fortune, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Business Times (Singapore), and The Guardian (UK). He has received over 10 teaching, research, and service awards: Neidorf “Best Instructor of the Decade” in 1999, UCLA (university-wide) Distinguished Teaching Award in 2012, LaForce Faculty Excellent Service Award in 2013, Sushil K. Gupta POMS Distinguished Service Award in 2017, Best Research Paper in Healthcare Big Data Analytics in 2014, KEDGE “20 years on” Research prize in 2017, and Salzberg Academic Award (for research contributions in Supply Chain Management) in 2017.
Dr. Tang’s research contribution in Global Supply Chain Management is recognized by all three major academic societies in the field of Operations Research/Management Science/Operations Management. He was elected as the Institute of Operations and Management Sciences (INFORMS) lifetime fellow in 2011, the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) lifetime fellow in 2011, and the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society (MSOM) lifetime fellow in 2015. Since 2015, Chris serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) journal.
Professor Tang served as a senior adviser to the President of National University of Singapore (NUS) and as Dean of NUS Business School. When serving as the Senior Associate Dean of the UCLA Anderson School, Chris founded the UCLA-NUS EMBA program.
